I guess her C-dif resolved. It seems she is still in Fairbanks; there was a Facebook post on February 12 about the gardening column starting up again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914086676454800973.post-56488565479511761722015-03-01T12:20:58.167-09:002015-03-01T12:20:58.167-09:00Yes, this is from November. I assume they moved away from Alaska. I was never able to get in touch with her.
TimTim Steelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01611027687223434753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914086676454800973.post-71076517835436136602015-03-01T12:01:01.759-09:002015-03-01T12:01:01.759-09:00I see this was originally posted back in November;...I see this was originally posted back in November; I'm not sure why I didn't see it. Tim, did you ever get in touch with this poor woman? Do we know how she is?

I'm a little confused about C-diff. My understanding is this is what causes most UTI infections, that we all have this bacterium, and that it becomes a problem when beneficial bacteria are wiped out. But, people have been taking rounds of antibiotics for years; why is C-dff infection so common now? Especially in people who aren't in hospitals? One of my friends became infected after taking one antibiotic tablet; he wasn't even really sick. And he was careful to take a probiotic with it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914086676454800973.post-90027532158214799642015-03-01T11:30:39.375-09:002015-03-01T11:30:39.375-09:00Get in touch with that woman STAT!! She seems to be following the same slow, meandering, and oft-detoured path to recovery of so many others who blindly trust the word of traditional Western doctors. I cannot, for the life of me, fathom how she would be blindly deferring to medicine without doing a lot of her own research. The information is out there, one simply has to look. Clearly she is literate and articulate. I hope she is able to gain some insight from your advice and information.

By the way, how effective do you think S. Boulardii is for C-diff? I've heard some are having success with it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914086676454800973.post-4135159407748606152014-11-12T21:14:52.990-09:002014-11-12T21:14:52.990-09:00Random source of fmt info here but...“Out on a Lim...Random source of fmt info here but...“Out on a Limb”, a book by Benjamin Kilham has some interesting info. A conservation officer spotted bears 'treating' themselves with blue-gray clay, organic soil, decayed leaves and ungulate scats. Cubs were routinely spotted eating deer droppings although, they would refuse any that wasn't fresh. Dogs will do the same.
In the same chapter, he talks about German troops in North Africa, during WW2 dying in alarming numbers because of dysentery. The Arabs were avoiding the same fate by following horses and camels around until they left droppings. It had to still be warm to have an effect.
The Germans eventually isolated the bacillus subtilis from the horse/camel dung and cured the dysentery epidemic in their troops.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6914086676454800973.post-57346083460552084342014-11-12T21:02:02.392-09:002014-11-12T21:02:02.392-09:00It's criminal!

So much that we have left to learn.

I think one day we will have a better idea how to eat based on our genes. The 'blood type diets' are probably on the right track, but they never really caught on.

I looked at several gut tests from various people of various health, and they all had the Christensenellaceae discussed in this paper, interestingly. Not sure what that implies.

I'd like to make a prediction: When our genes are fully mapped and we can make smarter decisions on how to eat, no one will be found to prosper on a diet filled with high fructose corn syrup, trans-fats, and artificial colors and flavors!

Thanks for the paper, I enjoyed it!
